Since childhood, I have been intrigued by the social relationships between animals and inter-species’ communication. Horses are particularly interesting to me and when I was ten I spent hours drawing them. During High School, I was an avid photographer, created several darkrooms and developed black and white photographs.
In 1970, I became an art major and made a living as a commercial artist before earning my Master’s degree in social work. In 1990, I began working in the challenging field of social work. For ten years I put my art and photography aside.
In 2000, I followed my dream of becoming a horse guardian and adopted Romeo, a tri-colored buckskin Paint. My life changed in ways that I could never have imagined. While Romeo was a young horse, he was diagnosed with a fractured navicular bone that left him lame. During this emotionally difficult time, I spent many hours photographing Romeo and his pasture environment. While he continues to be lame, he is a healthy equine and accompanies me for walks, giving us both the opportunity for additional physical excercise! Romeo returned my passion for photography. Since 2007, I have been showing and selling my work.
Photography has been a refuge for me as a social worker, refreshing my perspective and replenishing my spirit. Most of my photographs are taken in Santa Cruz County and other California locations.
We are family…all of us…here…sharing our lives on Mother Earth. May we live with respect and compassion for all living beings.
